☭ tankPad Basic Instructions
Editing The Sortition Website
Here we will learn how tankPad works to securely, and easily, update our website from a simple online text editor.
Some of this may seem complicated at first, but I guarantee it will take only a couple tries to master.
For anyone who isn't a citizen of the Sortition, the web upload features aren't available to you, but you can still use tankPad for secure code editing, note taking, encryption, and more.
First, open the Tor version of the Sortition website... here or here.
Click on the Menu icon, then Apps, then tankPad.
tankPad will open with a limited menu, filename area, and the edit box.
To start editing, click on the gear "⚙️" icon to show the extended menu, then the file cabinet "🗄" icon.
This will give you a list of the current web pages for the Sortition.
Click on the file with your name on it. It will look something like...
vlenin.html
After a moment, the directory will hide, and the html version of your web page will be displayed.
Click on the gear "⚙️" again to hide the advanced menu.
Your page's html code will look something like this...
This is our basic html template.
You can think of the top portion of the website as part of a form you don't have to change. If you accidentally alter it, there's a backup, so no worries.
Between the...
⬇️EDIT BELOW THIS LINE⬇️
section and the...
⬆️EDIT ABOVE THIS LINE⬆️
section, you can edit your first and second header to whatever you like. The text between these symbols <> are commands to format the text, like bold, underline, or Italics, etc...
Just below the edit line you should see the <h1> command.
Think of this as highlight type 1 or headline type 1. You "close" the highlight command using the same brackets as before <>, but put a / before h1, so it looks like this...
</h1>
All text between these two commands will use the highlight type 1 style.
Change the text between highlight type 1, and do the same for highlight type 2.
Add a short message in the text area, and we are ready to preview your new page.
At the top right of tankPad, you will see the glasses "👓" icon. Click this button to open another tab in your browser with your new content. When done, simply close that tab and you will be back to the editor.
Before we move on, if you had put more than one paragraph, or hit enter to get a new line, you probably noticed that, the paragraphs merged together in the preview. You didn't do anything wrong, this is just a part of how html works.
The easiest way to create the "line break" (or enter) command, is to type <br><br> after your paragraph. These commands are like hitting the enter button twice. Make sense? Feel free to try it!
When you are ready, let's save a backup copy of your new web page.
Click on the disk "💾" icon and follow your computer's instructions.
Depending on what type of computer you are using, your download options will be different. It's just a backup file, so you can skip this step if you don't want a backup copy, but upload errors are possible, and making a habit to grab a backup can save work.
Once you have a backup, click on the gear "⚙️" icon to reopen the advanced menu.
In the user name and password fields, enter your user name and password, then click the "📤" upload icon. There will be a waiting notification for a few seconds as the new file is transmitted, then a "Success" notification.
To confirm your file was uploaded properly, click on the "🗄" View Directory button.
Find your file again, but this time right click, or click and hold, depending on your system. This will bring up other browser options. Choose the option that most closely matches something like "open in new tab". Navigate to that new tab to see the live change. *You may have to refresh to see your changes.*
If everything looks as expected, close the tab, you are done editing. Great job!
If you have any trouble, feel free to reach out and ask the Council of Information for support.
Now that you know how to edit your own file, you can follow the same process to edit any part of our website you need to for Sortition business.
That's all!
Next time we will learn how to add hyperlinks, more formatting and a few more of the tankPad features.
Until then, keep doing what you can to dismantle the final slave systems of the bourgeoisie. Justice is inevitable. I love you comrades.
